Volunteer Profile: Isi | National Volunteer Week

This week is National Volunteer Week, and we want to say thank you to all the people that make our club run (and run, and run), from our weekly game day volunteers, to our executive and general committee, to our full-time team managers and beyond.

This week, we chatted to Isi Slavin, a MUGARS volunteer stalwart and our current Seniors team manager.

How long have you been at MUWFC and how did you get involved?

This is my fifth year of being involved with the club. I started in 2017 as a player; I came down to training because Maddie (Sheedy, now our club president) had started and she made it sound like so much fun, so I thought why not give it a try.

I played two seasons before realising that I was more in it for the social side of the club, but still wanted to be involved. That’s when the club moved towards having a permanent team manager and I thought that was something I could do.

What do you love about MUWFC?

I love how welcoming the club is; I’ve never been particularly sporty, but right from the start everyone was so supportive and just wanted you to try your best. I’ve made lifelong friendships at the club and it’s just a fun place to be involved.

What has your time at MUWFC looked like so far?

2017: Player

2018: Player, but when I wasn’t selected I would volunteer as team manager for that week. I ended up doing it more than playing that season 😂

2019: Team manager for the Ressies

2020: Was meant to be a year off (to travel), but… COVID

2021: Team manager for the Prems

Do you have any stand-out memories while volunteering?

Probably when I was timekeeper at the 2018 Prems grand final and getting to message the bench that there wasn’t enough time for the other team to win!
