Special Rounds in Season 2022
With the release of the VAFA Women's Premier Division fixture last week, we are excited to announce the (particularly) special rounds that we are looking forward to in the coming season.
Round 1 - Women's Premier Footy Festival - Seniors: MUWFC vs. Old Xaverians
Sunday 3 April, Elsternwick Park @ TBC time
The first round of the season is always exciting, but in 2022 it will be that little bit extra special. With our Seniors (and, in turn, our Reserves) having been elevated back into VAFA Women's Premier Division, after an almost undefeated season leading to a Minor Premiership in 2021, we are even more excited to challenge ourselves against new opponents. Additionally, the first round will be held at Elsternwick Park as part of a VAFA Women's Premier Footy Festival, a big day to start off a big season!
Round 3 - ANZAC Round - Seniors: Kew vs. MUWFC
Saturday 23 April @ 9.20am, Victoria Park (Kew)
Kew FC and MUWFC will come together to acknowledge and thank all those who have served and who continue to serve for our country in all theatres of conflict. We will especially remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and the impact of war upon women.
Round 5 - PLAY4BCNA Round - Seniors: Old Trinity vs. MUWFC
Saturday 7 May @ 2pm, Hudson Oval Trinity Playing Fields
Every year in Australia more than 20,000 Australians are diagnosed with breast cancer. In support of Australians affected by breast cancer, VAFA will partner with Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) during the PLAY4BCNA round to raise much needed funds. MUWFC is proud to elevate the work of Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA), whose vision is to ensure no one feels alone throughout their experience with breast cancer.
Round 6 - Pride Round - Seniors: MUWFC vs. St. Mary’s Salesian
Saturday 14 May @ 2pm, Melbourne University Oval
Since 2017, MUWFC has facilitated a Pride Round each year to bring visibility and support to LGBTQIA+ community. Initially a key round celebrated by our VFL team, Pride Round was celebrated by all three MUWFC teams in the VAFA competition for the first time in 2021. MUWFC is thrilled to continue this tradition, with all three teams to don our Pride Jumper and celebrate the day in 2022. The games will again be complemented with a Pride Luncheon event in 2022, the proceeds of which will be donated to an LGBTQIA+ charity; backed by our new Advisory Committee. The day will be supported by our fellow MUFC club, the Uni Blacks, with further club-wide inclusion education to be delivered across the year.
This is a significant round for our club as it provides an important opportunity for LGBTQIA+ visibility and support. We hope this event sparks and furthers conversations around inclusion, and helps make football and communities a welcoming place for all.
Round 10 (TBC) - Tackle Your Feelings (Mental Health) Round - Seniors: Caulfield Grammarians vs. MUWFC
Saturday 18 June @ 11:40am, Glen Huntly Oval
This important initiative will see VAFA bring mental health to the forefront of conversation through their partnership with the organisation Tackle Your Feelings (TYF). TYF recognises that a f
