Head MUGARS Returning for Season 2021

Updated: Oct 11, 2020

As we reach October and begin to look towards 2021, we are pleased to share our first staff announcements for the upcoming season.

We are excited to have our Head Coach Erini ‘Reens’ Gianakopoulos and Head of High Performance Michelle Andrews on board for another year.

Reens has been involved as a player and coach at MUWFC since 2000. A VFLW Development Coach in 2019, she returned as Head Coach of the MUGARS in 2020.

Her experience and strength lie in understanding each player’s individual development needs whilst ensuring the best outcomes for the club overall.

A member of AFL Victoria’s ’She Can Coach’ program in 2020, the two-time MUWFC Premiership Coach is excited about leading the club in our 25th season:

“I’m passionate about assisting Melbourne Uni players reach their full potential whether it be new players to the game or aspiring AFLW girls.

“Michelle Andrews is the best in the business in the High Performance space and I’m excited about working together and building on what we started 12 months ago.

"2021 is a big year for the black and blue and it’s a privilege to be a part of this proud club.”

Michelle has loved being a part of the MUWFC community since 2016. After a short hiatus in 2019, the culture and people lured her back to the club in 2020.

After starting her own Osteopathy Clinic and Athletic Development Centre in 2020, Motus Life is now able to provide the High Performance team for MUWFC, carrying the progress we’ve already made into 2021.

Michelle is a passionate Osteopath and Strength & Conditioning Coach, who combines both roles to get the best outcomes for each individual athlete. She has worked as an Osteopath and Sports Trainer with the Collingwood Football Club AFL team since 2013 and aspires to bring an elite approach to MUWFC’s high performance program:

“Knowledge is power and that’s the approach we’ll bring to the program; education is key and providing the right tools to get the most out of each player, team and the club as a whole is our goal for 2021.”

“Working with Reens is always a pleasure, she wants nothing but the best for every single player. I think that’s where our values align and that's what makes it easy to work together - a compromise between athletic development and football is easy to find when the coaching staff all want what’s best for the players."
