It's been a massive year for MUWFC, with several achievements across the year being recognised at end of season and end of year celebrations outside of our Presentation Night.
Thea Wischusen: Half Blue - The University of Melbourne
The annual Blues and Sports Awards presentation recognises the accomplishments of the University’s varsity athletes both domestically and overseas. Originating at Oxford and Cambridge Universities in the mid-19th century, half and full blues are awarded to University of Melbourne athletes for high performance in intervarsity events, especially UniSport Nationals and UniSport National Championships.
Thea's performance at the Intervarsity match against Monash University in early 2022 saw her nominated for this prestigious award, and we are thrilled to see her acknowledged. Thea has been a consistent performer on field in our Reserves and Seniors VAFA sides, and is well respected by her teammates.
Terri O'Reilly & MUWFC: Award for Excellence in Inclusion - Melbourne University Sport
Volunteers and club members were recognised by Melbourne University Sport at the annual Sport and Volunteer Celebration event held last week. 13 awards were presented to individuals and clubs who have made a significant contribution to Sport at the University in areas such as Service, Performance, Inclusion, Social Justice, and Innovation.
Terri was recognised for her significant contribution to the club and broader community in 2022, including changing policies, developing programs and influencing positive cultural change to ensure that everyone can thrive through sport, regardless of one’s personal attributes. Terri and the MUWFC Advisory Committee's work is implemented consistently into club planning and actions, and is available to support other clubs on their journey:
The club was also awarded separately for our Pride Round, including the luncheon, on field activation and education that centred and celebrated trans and non-binary people. We raised $2500 for Transgender Victoria through our efforts on the day, and celebrated the LGBTQIA+ community in many ways throughout the day.
Thank you to Melbourne University Sport for their support of our initiatives and acknowledgement of our efforts to create a safe and inclusive club.
Tahlia Meier: Runner Up League B&F and Rising Star Finalist - VAFA
Tahlia came to us at the conclusion of the Western Bulldogs FC’s VFLW season, after connecting with other MUWFC players who were training alongside her throughout the VFLW season. Tahlia made an immediate impact on the club and her teammates, with her strong work ethic evident at training and on game day.
In her 4th game with the club this season in the game against West Brunswick AFC, Tahlia played a starring role, and earned some of her many votes that led to her being the runner up in the League Best & Fairest count. Congratulations on your fantastic season Tahlia!
We would also like to congratulate all our players who received votes through the VAFA umpires throughout the season:

Daisy Nitsch: #FootyFocus22 Top 25 - AFL & Toyota Good For Footy
Daisy found time between playing in our Reserves this year and her busy schedule, to provide the club with some brilliant shots of our players in action throughout the season. One photo in particular saw her reach the top 25 and provided the opportunity to attend Fed Square with her fellow nominees, seeing their work on the big screen.
We are so grateful to Daisy, and the Mallia family who have provided the club with more content than we've ever had access to this season, for players across the whole club.
